As a travel photographer, I've always appreciated places with history, authenticity, and a touch of the spectacular. The Broadview Farmhouse in East Durham is all of these things and more. I was initially drawn to its Airbnb listing by its picturesque appeal and the prospect of capturing the essence of this 1850s gem with my camera, and it did not disappoint.

The farmhouse resides on an expansive 8 acres of tranquillity and rustic charm. My first interaction with the property was capturing the enchanting twilight hues that bathed the house and surrounding mountains. The warmth from the fire pit seemed to further accentuate the farmhouse's invitation to unwind and detach from the city's hustle and bustle.
My passion for photography often intertwines with my love for history and architecture, which brought me to the wraparound porch of The Broadview. I've always admired these features for their grandeur and symbolism of hospitality, and this porch was no exception. Bathed in sunlight, it was the perfect setting for a coffee and cupcakes shoot. Later, it transformed into a cozy haven for a twilight dinner setting.
The farmhouse interior offers an open floor plan with spacious living rooms, a dining room, and a large kitchen, all of which provided a diverse and interesting canvas for my photography. The bedrooms each have their unique color scheme and feel, allowing me to play with different lighting scenarios, angles, and composition. The comfortable memory foam mattresses in all rooms were a welcome retreat after a long day of shooting.
Stepping back outside, I was thrilled to have a vast playground for my photography. From the hammock swaying gently in the breeze to the inviting fire pit, every corner of the property presented a new perspective to be captured. I particularly enjoyed the vibrancy of nature here - the rustling leaves, the call of the wild, and the sheer tranquility were all part of the charm.
I relished photographing the farmhouse at different times of the day. The morning light brought out the farmhouse's elegance, the afternoon sun highlighted its rustic charm, and the twilight offered an ethereal beauty that I found particularly captivating. The strawberry martinis on the porch provided a perfect splash of color and fun to my photographs, adding another layer of story to the visuals.

The coolness of the house comes from architectural intelligence rather than artificial air conditioning.
