The Catskills

Located in New York State’s Southern Tier, The Catskills offer both natural beauty and cultural variety for those looking to buy a vacation home. Within close proximity to cities like New York City and Albany, purchasing land in The Catskills is a great way to get away from it all while still staying close enough to be convenient. But there are plenty of reasons why someone might want to purchase property upstate, far away from civilization as we know it. Hudson Valley: North of Manhattan, NY lies another great option for buying recreational property-the Hudson Valley.

The Hudson River Valley

Located just south of the beautiful Hudson River, New York is home to breathtaking scenery and diverse cities. The Hudson Valley is easily accessible from major metropolitan areas in New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany. Once upstate, visitors can enjoy hiking at Ashokan Reservoir, boating on Lake Ontario, and kayaking down smaller rivers. If you are looking for a place to buy real estate with some amazing views, look no further than upstate New York’s Hudson Valley region. You’ll find quaint country stores that carry local produce and craftsmen who create furniture to order by hand. There are also craft breweries where you can try seasonal ales while taking in views of small-town landscapes that date back centuries ago.

Ashokan Reservoir

The Ashokan Reservoir is a U.S. reservoir in Ulster County, New York, west of Olivebridge, and south of Pine Hill, both villages in Ulster County. It is part of New York City’s water supply system (originally designed to feed one set of four water tunnels). One tunnel carries water from an intake below Ashokan High Point down to an underground filtration plant at Esopus; another carries treated water up from the Esopus treatment facility for distribution to consumers. These intakes are connected by a 14-mile long conduit that runs along surface roads and crosses through several tunnels before connecting with Water Tunnel No. 3.
