As a photographer with a penchant for discovering the most authentic and interesting restaurants throughout the Hudson Valley and Catskills, I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Central Coffee-Bistro-Lounge in Peekskill, NY. Located within the historic Peekskill train station, The Central is not only a unique culinary destination but also a testament to the revitalization of a bygone era. With its storied past and vibrant present, this establishment invites patrons to embark on a journey through time while indulging in its delightful menu offerings.
The Central Restaurant and Lounge: Reviving History and Flavor in Peekskill, NY – Restaurant Reviews with Maxwell Alexander – Presented by Alluvion Vacations
Upon stepping inside this beautifully restored building, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the architectural details reminiscent of the Golden Age of passenger rail travel. The Central pays homage to its roots as a hub for the New York Central Railroad System, as well as the iconic 20th Century Limited, which once graced the station on its “water level route” between NYC and Chicago.
As I settled into my seat, I was impressed by the warm and welcoming ambiance, which seemed to evoke the spirit of the station’s former life as PJ Kelly’s Irish Pub. The friendly staff, composed of local restaurant professionals, offered impeccable service and truly made me feel like a part of the Peekskill community.
I couldn’t resist trying Kelly’s Burger – a mouthwatering combination of a perfectly cooked patty, cheddar cheese, aioli, lettuce, pickle, and red onion, all nestled between a soft brioche bun. As I took my first bite, the flavors melded together beautifully, creating a harmonious symphony of taste. To complement my meal, I enjoyed a refreshing beer from the local Newburgh Brewery, just up the river, which added a delightful touch of regional flavor.
The burger was a standout, but The Central’s extensive menu also offers an array of other dishes, beverages, and desserts, catering to diverse palates. What sets The Central apart, however, is its commitment to keeping the customer at the center of their daily practice. This dedication to providing great food, drink, service, and, most importantly, a place to belong, is clearly evident in every aspect of the dining experience.
In conclusion, my visit to The Central Coffee-Bistro-Lounge was a memorable and enjoyable one, filled with a sense of history, community, and exceptional cuisine. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a unique dining experience in the Peekskill area. So, whether you are a local, a visitor, or someone looking to immerse yourself in the rich heritage and culinary delights of the Lower Hudson Valley, The Central is a must-visit destination.
