The Sweet Spot for Starting Botox Injections – Beauty Tips with Ashley McGilliguddy, Hebe Medical Spa

What is Botox?

Botox is a neuromodulator that works by blocking the release of acetylcholine which results in paralysis of local muscles which causes the overlying skin to appear smoother. Botox isn’t actually the only neuromodulator available but is the one that the public is most familiar with. The effect of Botox usually occurs 24 hours- two weeks post injection and lasts about 3-4 months. The most common places people use Botox are between the eyes, on the forehead, and at the outer corners of the eyes. Botox can also be used to lift the brows, improve a gummy smile, and do the famous “lip flip”. At Hebe Medical Spa our goal is always a very natural looking result.

When should I start getting Botox injections?

While there is no set time to start Botox, we are increasingly seeing many women coming to the spa for treatment in their 20s because they’ve heard the news about Botox being used for prevention. New research shows that Botox is extremely useful as a preventative measure as well as a treatment. As we age, we develop dynamic lines which are lines that are present with movement. Eventually, our skin can no longer bounce back, and these lines start to become permanent (static) lines. The goal is to prevent dynamic lines from becoming static lines which require more aggressive treatment. Using Botox can also help prevent wrinkles that are already present from becoming deeper. In many cases, injectables are a wonderful alternative to cosmetic surgery.

What if I’m not ready for Botox?

There are a few other modalities that Hebe Medical Spa offers that can help prevent and treat fine lines and wrinkles. We offer medical-grade skincare products, Sculptra, laser skin resurfacing, micro needling, facials and chemical peels. Whether you are looking to enhance your face on zoom, or just boost your skincare routine, our best suggestion is to come to the spa for a complimentary consultation so we can formulate a treatment plan individualized for you!
