For many men, Summer simply means one thing: getting outside and having fun in the sun! And of course, that means you need to look good and hot doing it. From the boardwalk to the beach, Hudson Valley Style Magazine has made it easier than ever to get the most out of your summer by creating some of the best looks with swimwear you’ll find in the online shopping universe.
Get the right fit
Everyone has a different body type and what works for some won’t work for others. Thankfully, there is no shortage of swimwear styles on offer which means you can find something to suit your body shape and requirements. Rather than opting for a one-size-fits-all approach, we suggest shopping around or consider tailoring your choice based on what looks best on you. For instance, if you are tall then going for shorts rather than board shorts is always a good idea; as most brands don’t tend to make them in long sizes but they are easy enough to tailor by a local tailor or seamstress if you really love a particular pair of board shorts but they don’t fit quite right at present.
Color blocking is big, take advantage of it
You’ve heard of color blocking in fashion, but that doesn’t mean you can’t rock it on your body. Color blocking at home poolside is a great way to stay fashionable, or take advantage of such style as a swimmer yourself and match your suit to your personality. While there are no restrictions for color-blocked swimming gear for men, it may be best to keep it within primary colors like red and blue. However, summer is all about fun, so consider going with some funky colors to break up the boredom.
Nautical stripes and color blocking
There’s nothing quite like a nautical-inspired swimsuit to bring out your inner captain. Whether you’re hopping in the pool or lazing on your yacht, you can’t go wrong when you don stripes and color blocks. Men’s swimwear designers are playing around with stripes and block colors more than ever. And if you are going to take it to the next level – the pride rainbow is also made of stripes, even if they are going a bit gay rather than straight 🙂
What about board shorts?
The great thing about swimsuits for men is that they’re now available in a wider range of styles, colors, and fabrics than ever before. But board shorts—traditionally made from heavy material designed to protect you from harsh sun and ocean waters—don’t necessarily have to be your go-to for beach season. These days, designers are coming up with creative new versions of the classic style so that you can dress them up or down depending on what mood strikes you. Plus, some are better suited for those who may not want to show off their six-pack abs quite as much as others. For example, many resort collections include an unstructured version of the shorts where there’s no tight elastic band around the waist or inseam detailing on the legs.
Speedos are making a comeback!
Speedos used to be all we had, but a new collection of man-made fabric swimsuits are now providing both style and comfort. Speedos in one form or another have been around for over 80 years, but most guys in Europe wear them because they don’t really know what else is out there. The good news is that we can now add speedos to our list of go-to swimsuits in the US as well. The best part? All you need is a pair of swimming briefs or even thongs and some bronzer to be ready for your next day at the beach.
Pick your fabrics wisely
Picking your fabric wisely will help determine how often you wear them. Do you want something that dries quickly? Get something made of nylon. Prefer something that feels like it wraps closer to your body? Go with lycra spandex instead.
Know your body type: If you’re tall and thin, stay away from tight-fitting suits as they may accentuate areas where it’s not flattering. If you’re short and stocky, then you’ll want to go for something looser so it doesn’t cling too tightly on your body parts. Shop early!: Guys tend to wait until the last minute before shopping for swimwear – this usually means sizes are sold out and styles have changed by then which leaves us feeling frustrated on the morning of our trip to the pool/beach!
One more thing…don’t forget your sunscreen. The sun will be strong out there!
And while you’re at it, don’t forget your sunscreen. The sun will be strong out there—the best UV protection comes from a broad-spectrum, SPF 30+ sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. And remember to apply that sunscreen all over: ears, face (especially around sunglasses or goggles), hands, feet, arms—you don’t want any part of your body to burn. Apply the sunscreen about 20 minutes before going outside and then again every two hours or after swimming, sweating heavily, or wiping off sweat.
