Dino: How did you decide to take the path of a career in nursing?

Randi: I always wanted to be a nurse, actually. However, I wasn’t brave enough to register for college until I was 29! I spent a good portion of my adult life feeling like I wasn’t “college material.” Little did I know I was more than qualified for college… I obtained stellar grades all throughout, making the Dean’s List a handful of times!
I learned I was a lot smarter than I gave myself credit for! I now empower women to dig deep and get uncomfortable taking risks! You just never know what you’re capable of!

Dino: Did you always wanted to get into to the health beauty industry?

Randi: No, not at all! It actually didn’t cross my mind until 5 years into my nursing career. I began an affiliate-ship with an online makeup brand SEINT Beauty and quickly realized I have a love for the industry, I had no idea! Soon after becoming involved with Seint Beauty, it was recommended to me that I try out Microblading Artistry (brow artistry by semi-permanent ink) as a “side-gig.”

I had no experience with SEMI-permanent makeup, but the field intrigued me! I inquired about courses offered and eventually signed with renowned Katie Dang of Advanced Microblading Academy in 2020. I earned my certification in February just as the pandemic reached the US.

I spent the next 5 months practicing, as I was taking time off from nursing due to my mother being in her last days, battling Leukemia. I fell madly in love with the craft. I began taking clients in July 2020, when things started opening back up and the rest is history!

Dino: Tell us how Hudson Valley Beauty Lab got started?

Randi: I had been operating my brow business from a studio located in Newburgh, NY, inside of Wire Works Building, a newly renovated community workspace. I loved working from there, the energy was perfect and my clients were always complimenting my studio…. But I was growing quickly out of that space, especially when I began offering Botox and Filler services.

I decided after almost one year of working from there, it was time to expand! A Small Medi-Spa just felt right to me. Little did I know, it was going to morph into such a magical experience for myself and my clients!

Dino: How did the idea about the brand name came together?

Randi: I knew early on I wanted to open multiple locations throughout the Hudson Valley, so naming it Accordingly was important to me.

The “Beauty Lab” portion was created because I am a super nerd. I love science, anatomy and everything to do with how and why our body/mind functions the way it does. I thought the “Lab” part presented an accurate correlation between how the beauty industry meshes perfectly into medical Aesthetics!
Medi-Spa of course was added so people recognize we offer advanced treatments and services.

Starting a business in 2021 might not have been an easy task but it’s definitely a testament to determination, dedication, and a strong will. What was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome so far?

The biggest hurdle of 2021 thus far was finding a team that is willing to be just as determined and enthusiastic, as I am. I was super strategic in choosing who helped me open, design, and be a part of the HVBL team.
I am currently in the process of building the foundation of my brand, making certain every facet of my business is cohesive with my mission is of the utmost importance to me.

Dino: What would you say is the one thing that separates your from any other MedSpas in the area?

Randi: My interpersonal relationships with my clients. They are like family. My attention to detail, no matter how big or small, has set me apart, hands down.

My goal is to ensure every single client feels at “home” – no cold or clinical feels, no pressures to buy retail – simply, I aim to provide every client an “experience” from the moment they walk in my door. I want to give them a “wow factor” that is warm and fuzzy and transcends through time.

Dino: Wow! Thank you for sharing your story and we are looking forward to have another chat with you later this year!
